Duality of Life
© Alfred J. Parker
Excerpt from Universal Perspective

This planet was made for habitation; it is an integral part of time, which represents mathematical gradations that measure the unfoldment of life or the divine powers of being as they manifest the greater and lesser seasons of time.  We, as individuals living such a short time upon this earth, see and understand clearly only the lesser seasons such as spring, summer, autumn, and winter, because they recur so often in our short lives.  In the greater, divine plane of life, these seasons rotate just the same, only in periods representing many thousands of years.  We see this in the great ages of history, verified through the findings of great prehistoric monsters, of buried implements, and miscellaneous articles from prehistoric races.  For instance, I know of an individual who discovered a completely opalized clam shell buried underground in the mountains.  I have personally seen whole clam beds bulldozed out of the side of a mountain around the six thousand foot level.  Would this not prove that the particular mountain at six thousand feet was under the ocean at time, to spawn clam beds?"

The basis of life is duality; for instance, in the universal picture representing eternity we see what is termed in Christian theology as God, the father representing the male or positive part of being, the reason and seed or creative power of life.  And, as all seeds must have the earth in which to propagate, so, as the opposite to God--the male or abstract part of life--we see the physical universe, of which earth is a part.  The earth represents the negative, or female, manifestation of life and is the direct opposite of the male, or the father.  The male is the seed, and the female is the principle of fertility or the earth in which God becomes involved to become clothed in flesh; the flesh is the earth and termed in philosophy as Mary, the mother, representing the finite or material plane of being.

Life must be made up of opposites to become a complete whole.  It takes the earth and a seed to produce a plant that through its individual phases of growth encompasses all the seasons of nature from spring to winter, the two opposites in nature from spring to winter, the two opposites in nature.  Spring represents all forms of life coming into a new cycle or season or growth, shown particularly through plant life.  Spring is the awakening of natural forces that have been dormant throughout the winter.  Winter is the time when nature lies fallow, or sleeping, and absorbs the elements of the earth, building up the powers that were used by the soil to promote growth for spring and summer.

Thus as spring heralds the awakening of nature we see the law of evolution working, the coming into a new life or season, whilst the late fall sees the ripe seed pods dropping onto the ground to become buried by the falling leaves and involved in the earth during the winter; this symbolizes the involutionary period.  There must be involution to create evolution.  There must be a winter and a spring.  There must be a God-father, as well as a Mary-mother (earth); this we call the duality of life, or the completeness of being.

There must be a male and female to create life in all species except some bivalve species--and even they are male and female complete within themselves.  So we must have the two opposites to prove existence itself, as for example in life, we have the abstract plane, termed God, and his counterpart, Mary-mother (the earth); also summer and winter, both in the lesser, or yearly, seasons.  There is north and south, giving us the axis upon which the earth revolves; then we have day and night (positive and negative phases of life), white and black, hot and cold, sun and moon (positive and negative), up and down, air and earth; in human characteristics:  happiness and sorrow, laughing and crying, love and hate, health and sickness, honesty and dishonesty, humbleness and ego, good and evil, wisdom and ignorance, knowledge and blind faith, and many others too numerous to mention.  Thus we see that life is based upon the two opposites between which humankind must maintain the balance.

The duality of being refers to the higher, the unknowable, the intelligent aspect of the Principle of Life, and the lower, representing the intelligence in definable form.

Names Create Inequality

Excerpt from What's In Your Name
© Alfred J. Parker

If we agree with Abraham Lincoln's statement that "all men are created equal," what then happens in the lives of people that results in wealth for a few, sickness and poverty for many?  What is the cause of the thousands of experiences and stimuli that shape our lives?  Is their occurrence haphazard, or is there a reason for the pattern of our lives?

At birth we are as animals, and therefore equal for a brief period of our lives; we remain as such until we begin to respond to our given names.  From this milestone onward our minds begin to develop, and therein lies the inequality of humanity.

Different names give us physical and mental characteristics.  For how else can we differ from each other?  As infants our bodies are the same, we have the same fears, loves, desires, and hates; but with the establishment of our names, personality and strong desires of likes and dislikes begin to manifest. All our happiness and sorrows, hopes and despairs, health and sicknesses, successes and failures are instilled in us by our individual names and nicknames.  All that we are, and ever will be, is contained in the letters of our name.

It is the manifesting power of the name that had created the vast inequality.  If our names are balanced and we follow the laws of nature, we are better able to reach our potentialities.

Name Analysis

BART, FRANK, KENNETH, LARS, MARTY, PADDY, CLAY, CARUSO, FLETCHER, REED, STACY, BESSIE, ELSIE, ETHEL, EVE, FAY, GLADYS, IDA, IRMA, LISA, LOUISA, SHELLEY, VIVIAN

The possessors of these names have quick, intelligent minds:  imaginative, versatile, and self-confident.  They are independent, original, and very positive in opinion; they hate limitations or interferences and despise monotony.  They should never be thrown into too much system and detail.  Being so versatile, they can adapt themselves to almost any environment and situation, and can do anything to which they set their minds and hands.  As long as they find action and see progress, they are happy, but as soon as they are obstructed and forced to mark time, there is a terrific nervous reaction that builds up in the solar plexus and stomach.   If this is not relieved, the tension may create intense moods of depression and, in serious circumstances, health problems affecting the head area or the stomach and digestive system could result.

They resent intrusion by others in the accomplishment of their plans.  It is not easy for these people to accept evaluations and constructive criticism unless they are given with a great deal of diplomacy and courtesy.  They become very indignant if their opinions or judgments are questioned.  They cannot stand ridicule nor appreciate a joke of themselves.  They are self-sufficient and self-reliant and work best on their own.  Their intense natures generate tremendous energy that must be given an outlet in creative accomplishment and progress.  They tend to do to excess the things they like to do until they lose interest. They find it challenging to relax mind or body unless they have reached the point of exhaustion.

Because they are strong in their opinions, they must be careful to avoid intolerance.  They have critical and analytical minds and easily see the weaknesses in others.  Being extremely analytical, they must learn to focus upon themselves and then they will become more tolerant.  When irritated, they can be extremely sarcastic and candid and express unwarranted thoughts to the ones they love.  They can be jealous and possessive although they would never admit it.

Being loyal in friendships, they are not easily influenced by the opinions or actions of others, and are dependable and unchangeable once they have reached their decisions and committed themselves.  They respect fairness and champion those in less-fortunate circumstances, including friends and family.  Honesty, keeping promises, and truthfulness mean a great deal to these people.

They love their freedom and they love change.  Their sense of duty (or because they have given their word) may keep them tied down, but their frustration shows through their disposition.  Make life interesting for these people.  They are very impulsive and appreciate adventure. They find happiness and satisfaction in the outdoors and in varied experiences.  They love physical activities such as sports.  They like to explore new lines of activity and they love to travel.

They appreciate simplicity in their homes and in their attire.  They are not comfortable in large groups of people and usually have a few close friends.

Questions

Excerpt from last month's article on the Kabalarian Conception of God.

Thus does God the Power become seeded into life as a power that expands and produces all species and forms of life, finally arriving at humankind, the highest physical development upon the Tree of Life.

A question was asked about the interpretation of the "Tree of Life" as applied to humankind.

The Tree of Life has been used as a symbolic reference for many centuries by many different cultures.  It seems each major religion has adapted the "Tree" format for its own interpretation of the involutionary and evolutionary principles of life.  The symbolism of the Tree of Life originates from the Hindu philosopher, Patanjali.  Kabalarian teachings come from Mr. Parker's source, Swami Rai Mohan Dutta, who introduced him to this Hindu teaching.

The Tree of Life is a symbolic story of each individual.  It is both personal and universal.  It relates the Mathematical Principle to the physical, mental, and spiritual planes.  Patanjali in creating his concept of the Tree of Life recognized the similarity between the physical body and a normal tree growing in life.  He recognized the Mathematical Principle in discerning or creating the concept of the gradations of mental steps of growth.  He also gave the concept of the transmutation through the steps of growth from the lower to the higher.  Patanjali taught the principle of "will," that through the concentration of the mind willing the body to respond in certain ways these transformations of growth could take place.

These concepts are part of the study of the Kabalarian Philosophy.

What does 2002 hold for you?

As nature expresses both negative and positive conditions in the depressions and plentiful seasons of nature, so does the human mind have its negative and positive conditions:  times when we are up and down in our thinking, when we tend more to depressed and emotional thoughts and our analysis and good judgment is affected.

You should know the cyclic conditions affecting your thinking and judgment and you will know why you made poor decisions in the past and could never understand the cause of your mistakes and bad judgment.  Only now, as you look back to any bitter experience of the past, do you realize what vast changes can take place in your thinking--depending upon the time and conditions surrounding you at the time.  There are times when everything seems to come your way with the least effort, and at other times, despite all you do, nothing seems to work in your favour.  These are the conditions through which you are passing.

With knowledge of your personal cycle, or the nature of the hour, day, month, and year, you will not be affected adversely because of the depressed conditions of the day.  The point is to find the direct relationship to one's mind to the hours, days, months, and years, to know whether one's thoughts are positive or otherwise; the nature of one's decision may well affect one's entire life materially, emotionally, and through the health.  Every thinker knows that his thinking and judgment may be affected by outside conditions.  The vital thing is that in the past no one seems to have had any positive standard of measurement.

Quote of the Month

"There is nothing in life harder to learn than the lesson of service to your fellowman--to love him for what he is.  It is easy to love yourself, but it is hard to love someone else.
